Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja has said that today's by-election remained very peaceful and in this regard the support of the governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were praiseworthy, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
Talking to media at the Election Commission office, Sikander Raja said that turnout is always low in by-elections.
He said there were many reasons for low turnout. The Chief Election Commissioner said this election was not supposed to be a number game change, due to which public interest remained low.
Sikandar Raja said ECP took indiscriminate action against those who violated the code of conduct. Chief Election Commissioner said DROs have sent some reports and ECP itself took notice of some complaints.
Chief Election Commissioner said no unusual complaints were received in today's by-election. Chief Election Commissioner said federal minister Talal Chaudhry has been summoned on Monday for hearing.
Sikandar Raja said a minister and a candidate were disqualified for violating the code of conduct in the local government elections.
Th ECP chief said there was a legal scheme for everything, there are violations in elections all over the world.
Chief Election Commissioner said the commission sends its suggestions to the government from time to time, however, the commission has no authority to give instructions to the tribunal.
