BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri has come under fire from the Opposition for his 'terrorist' remark and communal slurs against BSP's Kunwar Danish Ali in Parliament.
According to 24NewsHD TV Channel, Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri made Islamophobic remarks and used communal slurs against Muslim MP Kunwar Danish Ali inside the parliament.
During a debate on Thursday on the success of India’s historic moon mission, BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri called Danish Ali of the opposition Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) a “terrorist” and a “pimp” among other offending remarks.
A video clip of the comment, which has now gone viral on social media, has evoked sharp reactions as well from Speaker Om Birla who said there would be a strict warning if such behaviour was repeated.
The BJP has issued a show-cause notice to Ramesh Bidhuri on the instruction of party president JP Nadda for the use of unparliamentary language against Danish Ali.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said the BJP leader's remark was highly condemnable. “I have never heard such language. This language should not be used inside or outside the Parliament.
Bengal Minister Shashi Panja while condemning the statement said, "BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri uttered derogatory insulting remarks against fellow MP in House yesterday. How was this offensive language allowed by the Speaker of the House?
Meanwhile, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said, "If he has only said 'terrorist', we are habitual to hearing it... Those words were used against the whole Muslim community. I can't understand how can Muslims associated with the BJP tolerate this? This shows what they think about Muslims...They should be ashamed."
Sharing the video of Bidhuri, TMC MP Mahua Moitra tagged Speaker Om Birla, PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in her tweet and urged them to act.
Taking a jibe at PM Modi and Amit Shah, Congress leader Pawan Khera tweeted, "I have seen Ramesh Bidhuri as MLA in Delhi Assembly. He was better during those days. I guess, in the Parliament his upbringing has been ably done by Modi-Shah. New Parliament. New India."
Danish Ali said he is, with a heavy heart, considering "leaving" the parliament if no action is taken against BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, who used communal slurs against him inside the lower house last evening. If this can happen to me, what will happen to a common man? An emotional Danish Ali said, on the verge of breaking down on camera, adding that he couldn't sleep all night as he felt like his brain was about to 'explode'.
"Was this special session (of the parliament) called to attack elected MPs by linking them to their community? This has shamed the entire country. We will see whether his party will take any action against him or promote him. This is hating speech," Kunwar Danish Ali said.
The BSP MP said he submitted a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker demanding action against Mr Bidhuri. This is the first time that this indecent language has been used against an elected MP. This is a threat," Mr Ali said, and questioned if this is what's taught to the cadre of the "laboratory of new India".
Kunwar Danish Ali, in his letter to the Speaker, said the BJP MP directed the "most foul, abusive invectives" against him which are part of the record of the Lok Sabha.
