Shehbaz, born 23 September 1951, is a Pakistani politician and businessman who is currently serving as the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan since March 2024, having previously served in the position from April 2022 to August 2023.
Shehbaz is the President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He has previously served as the Chief Minister of Punjab three times in his political career, making him the longest-serving Chief Minister of Punjab.
He was the Chief Minister of Punjab from 8 June 2013 to 8 June 2018 and the former Leader of the Opposition, Lower House of Pakistan. Politically, he belongs to the Sharif family. Mian Sharif (founder of the Ittehad Group) is his father and former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif is his brother.
Shehbaz was elected to the Punjab Assembly in 1988 and National Assembly of Pakistan in 1990. He was re-elected to the Punjab Assembly in 1993 and nominated as the Leader of the Opposition. Elected to the assembly for the third time in 1997, Shehbaz took oath as the Chief Minister of Punjab on 20 February 1997.
