The second day of Islamabad’s third anti-polio campaign of the year has been completed, with health teams administering polio drops to more than 290,000 children, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.
A review meeting chaired by the Islamabad Deputy Commissioner was held to assess progress in the campaign. Additional deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and health department officials attended the meeting.
The performance of the campaign across all eight divisions of the federal capital was reviewed individually. Officials briefed the meeting that 290,114 children were administered polio drops on the second day, achieving 65 per cent of the target.
The meeting also reviewed the difficulties faced by polio workers during the campaign. Officials examined refusal cases individually and discussed measures to improve coverage.
The campaign’s latest figures were also compared with the results of the previous two anti-polio campaigns to assess progress and identify areas requiring further attention.
The deputy commissioner directed officials to improve the coverage achieved by polio teams and ensure that more children are reached during the campaign.
He also appealed to citizens to cooperate with polio workers, stressing that the campaign cannot be made successful without public support.
