Pakistani fashion designer, actor and television host Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, popularly known as HSY, has opened up about his complicated relationship with his father and shared how years of distance eventually gave way to care, forgiveness and emotional closure.
The designer starts with his childhood memories, HSY look back to the period when he had disagreements with his father and their relationship became distant.
He said his mother, however, never spoke negatively about his father and continued to remind him of the relationship he shared with him.
HSY also remembered how, when he was young, he had dreams of studying at the National College of Arts or a fashion school, but those plans did not initially materialise.
During those difficult years, he said his sister remained a major source of support for both him and his mother.
Years later, his father suffered a stroke and became seriously ill, which left him physically dependent on others and without the means to look after himself.
HSY disclosed that despite their complicated past, he stepped forward and cared for his father for around 15 years.
Calling to mind his father’s final days, HSY said he had planned to visit him and tell him that he loved and forgave him.
However, his father returned to his village before that meeting could take place.
Soon afterwards, around the time of his birthday, HSY received the heartbreaking news of his father’s death, which left him with a heavy heart as he had never got the chance to say the words he had been carrying inside.
However, Hassan Sheheryar Yasin believes that he eventually found a sense of closure in an unexpected moment.
As he sat reflecting on his father and everything they had shared, a sudden flash of bright lightning nearby gave him a deep feeling of peace and emotional release, which he took as a moment of gratitude from God.
HSY’s journey has been marked by both personal struggles and professional success.
He entered the fashion industry in the 1990s and went on to build one of Pakistan’s best known couture brands, while later expanding into television hosting and acting.
His famous work includes his show Tonight with HSY and Drama Pehli Si Muhabbat.
