Taiwan’s referendum to reopen the Manshan Nuclear Power Plant has failed after voter turnout fell short of the required threshold, foreign media reported.

According to reports, five million votes were needed for approval, but only 4.3 million voted in support, while 1.5 million opposed the move.

The failure reflects ongoing safety concerns over nuclear energy production and waste management in Taiwan.

Taiwan’s President stated that if technology improves in the future, the country may reconsider the option of modern nuclear energy.
