The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has decided to launch a nationwide crackdown on illegal call centres amid concerns that fraudulent operations are damaging Pakistan’s reputation, officials said.
A joint task force will be constituted to examine the legal status and activities of call centres operating across the country.
Officials from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and other law enforcement agencies will also be included in the task force as part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency coordination.
The task force will review matters related to the establishment, registration and lawful operations of call centres and identify those allegedly involved in illegal activities.
A joint strategy will then be formulated for action against call centres found to be operating unlawfully.
The terms of reference for the task force will be finalised in consultation with the relevant agencies, officials said.
Authorities will also monitor financial transactions, including funds and cryptocurrency accounts linked to call centre operators and administrations.
The crackdown will begin after the task force completes its assessment of the activities and legal status of call centres operating across the country.
