A little girl who was suffering from Rabies (a disease occurred due to dogbite) breathed her last at Indus Hospital in Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
The administration of the Indus Hospital said that the girl was brought to the hospital Monday night.
Incharge of the Rabies Clinic Dr Aftab Gohar said that a stray dog bit the girl two months ago, but she did not receive the vaccine.
Three people have died due to dogbites during the current year.
On February 23, 2026, another case of rabies was reported in the city after a 75-year-old resident of Lyari was brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) after developing symptoms of the disease.
Doctors at the JPMC said the patient had been bitten by a stray dog around three months ago and is now exhibiting hydrophobia (fear of water) and photophobia (sensitivity to light), both hallmark signs of advanced rabies infection.
The patient has been placed under medical supervision and is receiving palliative care, they added.
Health authorities confirmed that this is the fifth rabies case reported in Sindh so far this year, amid a worrying rise in dogbite incidents across the province.
According to experts, rabies deaths are preventable with prompt post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) by stopping the virus from reaching the central nervous system.
