Selling pressure continued unabated at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), with the benchmark KSE-100 index dropping nearly 1 percent on Tuesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The market opened on a positive note and briefly surged in early trade, but selling pressure quickly emerged, dragging the benchmark index sharply lower by mid-morning session, hitting an intraday low of 163,907.59.
Following the steep dip, the market staged a steady recovery through late morning and midday, with the index climbing back toward the 168,000 level.
However, the rebound proved short-lived, pushing the KSE-100 back into negative territory by the end of business.
At close, the benchmark index settled at 166,258.54, a decrease of 1432.54 points or 0.86%.
Out of 567 futures-market companies, 139 recorded gains, 292 declined, while 136 remained unchanged.
Even though some geopolitical tensions have eased, risk appetite remains fragile,” said an economic expert.
“Markets are still pricing uncertainty, as investors don’t wait for inflation prints, trade disruptions, or macro data to confirm the damage; they sell first on heightened geopolitical risk, uncertainty, and risk-off flows,” the expert added.
Earlier on Monday, the benchmark KSE-100 Index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a bearish trend, losing 5,478.63 points, a negative change of 3.16 percent, to close at 167,691.08 points.
During the session, the ready market recorded a trading volume of 461,264,025 shares with a traded value of Rs 24.935 billion, against 537,645,825 shares valuing Rs 23.790 billion in the previous session. Market capitalization decreased to Rs 18.971 trillion from Rs 19.602 trillion a day earlier.
K-Electric Limited topped the volume chart with 36,062,769 shares, followed by WorldCall Telecom with 33,673,161 shares and Bank of Punjab with 26,673,106 shares.
The top gainers included S.S.Oil Mills Limited, which rose by Rs 51.24 to close at Rs 563.62, and Pakistan Engineering Company Limited, which gained Rs 22.10 to settle at Rs 617.45.

On the losing side, PIA Holding Company Limited declined by Rs 361.50 to close at Rs 16,495.50, while Sapphire Textile Mills Limited fell by Rs 134.19 to close at Rs 1,239.00.
