A meeting of the District Emergency Board was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Lahore Captain (R) Muhammad Ali Ijaz, focusing on strengthening fire safety measures and emergency preparedness across the city.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) and senior officials from Rescue 1122, WASA, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), and LESCO.
During the briefing, officials informed the forum that a survey of 833 buildings in Lahore has been completed, out of which 13 buildings have been declared extremely dangerous and placed in the ‘F’ category.
It was shared that fire safety arrangements have been reviewed in 665 industrial units, and the installation of fire hydrants has been declared mandatory in every industrial facility.
The district administration has set a target to upgrade all buildings to ‘A’ safety category within one year.
To ensure swift response during emergencies, the deputy commissioner directed that a LESCO representative remain present at the DC Control Room round the clock.
He ordered strict enforcement of fire safety laws and instructed LESCO, LDA, and Civil Defence to take immediate action against dangerous buildings.
Captain (R) Muhammad Ali Ijaz also directed the Managing Director WASA to install 108 new fire hydrants at various locations across the city.
Orders were issued to remove encroachments and illegal parking from Shah Alam Market, Azam Cloth Market, and Ichhra Bazaar, areas frequently vulnerable to fire incidents.
