Heavy rain Sunday hit different areas of Karachi making the weather pleasant and increasing the risk of floods at the same time, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Rainfall in major areas of Karachi including Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Federal B area, Shahrah-e-Pakistan, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Liari expressway, Malir, Saddar, Jail Chowrangi, airport and their surroundings cooled off the weather in the city.
However, the excessive downpour also posed a major threat of flooding in the city. Major areas of the KP and Balochistan provinces have already flooded. The mountainous areas are facing the disaster of land-sliding due to the excessive rains.
Hyderabad turned into pond
The roads of Hyderabad turned into ponds of stagnant rainwater as Wasa failed to drain it. Wasa’s water pumping stations working to remove the water from the streets were deprived off electricity as Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) had their feeders turned off.
Hyderabad Mayor Kashif Shoro along with Municipal Commissioner Anees Dasti and Managing Director Wasa Anjum Saeed visited various areas of the city to regulate the water drainage.
The mayor said that the he asked the Hesco Chief to ensure provision of electricity to pumping stations during rains. However, the water is being drained by the pumping stations with the help of generators.
The Hesco representatives said that 186 feeders of the Hesco region have been shut down for safety purposes out of which 45 are of Hyderabad. They added that the electricity will be restored in the feeders as soon as the rain has stopped and the security clearance is given.
Heavy rain showered in Larkana and its surroundings. The weather in Larkana became very pleasant but several electric feeders were tripped depriving the public of electricity.
