The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore, Dr Athar Waheed, has instructed the city’s traffic police to ensure strict implementation of stop line rules at all traffic signals.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, speaking on the importance of this measure, CTO Lahore emphasised, “The white stop line is not just paint—it’s a sign of civilization.”
Under these new directives, Traffic Education Units (TEU) are now actively present on the roads, educating and guiding motorists regarding lane discipline and pedestrian safety.
“The purpose of stopping before the stop line is to protect pedestrians, especially when the signal turns red,” said CTO Lahore. “Just beyond the stop line lies the zebra crossing, and it is the right of pedestrians to cross safely.”
CTO Athar Waheed further instructed all traffic wardens to ensure vehicles stop before the white line. Violators will be issued challans on the spot.
He added that the implementation of lane lines and stop lines ensures that citizens reach their destinations safely and orderly.
“The violation of the stop line will now result in an e-challan, and citizens should be aware of this consequence,” he cautioned.
CTO concluded by saying, “The discipline of a nation’s traffic system reflects the awareness and civic sense of its people.”
