Popular Pakistani actress Saheefa Jabbar has called out the unrealistic portrayal of women in drama serials, particularly the way they are shown wearing heavy jewelry and expensive clothes in daily routine.  Questioning the same, the female star wrote: “Do women in everyday Pakistani households really wear sarees every day? Do they apply that much makeup on a daily basis? Why is there even a need to show all this in our dramas?

Saheefa emphasized that the majority of the people in the country belong to the lower middle class, where flaunting expensive clothes is not that much common. “Most people in our country belong to the middle or lower class, where wearing expensive clothes, heavy makeup, and jewelry on a daily basis is not common. Then why are our dramas portraying it as if every woman lives like this?" she added.

The female star also condemned the harmful and repetitive content in drama serials, including Saas Bahu soap, a miserable woman defending herself for honor and romanticizing oppression, stating: “ Why have all drama storylines become so repetitive? Why do they all revolve around the same themes? Why does every female character have to constantly defend her honor? Why is every mother-in-law shown tormenting her daughter-in-law? Why are relationships always shown as being built on force and oppression? Forced marriages, unwanted relationships, and abuse by husbands are shown in so many dramas as if these things are somehow a part of love—or as if they’re normal and acceptable.”

Slaming the same, Saheefa said: Why is all this happening? Just for TV ratings? Or are we actually making our society worse by showing such content?
