The district police officer of Gujrat has ordered an inquiry into the mysterious death of a kabaddi player in the Pir Jand area, within the jurisdiction of Sadar Kharian Police Station.
The deceased was identified as Qasim Gujjar, also known as Bala Gujjar, who reportedly collapsed and died during a kabaddi match.
Following the incident, social media posts claiming that the player had died from poisoning went viral, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.
However, the player’s relatives submitted a written statement to police declaring the death to be the result of a medical condition and expressed their unwillingness to pursue legal action.
The body was subsequently handed over to the family without a postmortem examination.
Taking notice of the matter, DPO Gujrat ordered police to investigate the case from all angles and determine the exact cause and circumstances of the player’s death.
