Pakistani media personality and actress Mishi Khan has weighed in on the growing trend of bold podcast conversations, questioning the need to publicly discuss intimate topics that she believes do not align with societal values.
A viral video circulating on social media shows Mishi Khan expressing strong disapproval of recent podcast discussions, particularly those involving personal and sensitive subjects.
"Mujhy ye samajh nahi aa rahi media py is tarha ki open aur vulgar conversations ki kya zaroorat hai. I mean, already Pakistan ek sexually starved nation hai aur usky baad aap is tarha ki guftagu kar rahy hain" (I don't understand why there is a need for such open and vulgar conversations on the media. I mean, Pakistan is already a sexually starved nation, and on top of that, you are having this kind of discussion). she remarked.
Referring to a recent episode of the ‘Say It All’ podcast hosted by Iffat Omar, featuring actor Adeel Afzal as a guest, Mishi criticized the discussion surrounding men's preferences and women's physical attributes.
"Iffat Omar sahiba and Adeel Afzal dono ye batain kar rahy hain ky men are interested in female sizes aur isi tarha mardon mein baat hoti hai. Kya ho gaya hai aap logon ko? Ye kis qisam ki batain kar rahy hain aap log?" (Madam Iffat Omar and Adeel Afzal are both talking about how men are interested in female sizes, and that this is how men talk among themselves. What is wrong with you people? What kind of things are you talking about?) she said.
Mishi further objected to celebrities sharing personal details about their private lives, urging content creators to refrain from what she described as "bakwaas vulgar content."
"Band karain is bakwaas vulgar content ko. Jidhar dekho kisi prostitute ko bithaya hota hai ya phir kisi dirty dancer ko. Ye agenda social media ke zariye hamari society mein purzor tareeqay se promote kiya ja raha hai" (Stop this nonsense and vulgar content. Wherever you look, they have seated either a prostitute or a dirty dancer. This agenda is being vigorously promoted in our society through social media.) she added.
Her remarks came shortly after clips from Iffat Omar's Say It All podcast went viral online, sparking a debate among social media users. While some viewers defended open conversations on adult issues as part of evolving media discourse, others echoed Mishi Khan's concerns, arguing that such discussions are inappropriate and inconsistent with Pakistan's cultural and social norms.
The controversy has once again ignited conversations about the boundaries of free expression, evolving entertainment trends, and the kind of content that should be promoted on digital platforms in Pakistan.
