A Palestinian family has accused Israeli forces of torturing an 18-month-old child at a checkpoint in central Gaza, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday.
They alleged the toddler was burned with cigarettes and had nails driven into his wounds while soldiers pressured his father into making a forced confession.
According to the family, the incident took place at a checkpoint near the Maghazi refugee camp, where Israeli troops detained Osama Abu Nasser and allegedly abused his infant son, Jawad Abu Nasser, in front of him.
Relatives said the child, aged 18 months, cried in pain as his body was wounded and burned, while Israeli soldiers allegedly tried to coerce the father into confessing to unspecified accusations.
The family said the toddler was released around 10 hours later through the International Committee of the Red Cross, while the father remained in Israeli custody.
The reported incident has intensified outrage over allegations of abuses against Palestinian civilians in Gaza, where rights groups and humanitarian organisations have repeatedly raised concerns over the treatment of detainees and the impact of Israeli military operations on children.
