17 cops dismissed for links with drug dealers in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani dismissed 17 police officials for having ties and providing shelter to drug dealers in Rawalpindi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

According to details, a detailed scrutiny was conducted after the directives from CPO against police officials during crackdown.

An inquiry committee comprising senior police officers detected that some police officials involved in having ties with drug dealers and providing shelter to them.

The dismissed officials included one sub-inspector, four ASIs, four head constables and eight constables.

The CPO further explained that all the officials were dismissed under a mechanism of Punjab police department of accountability. He said that people have lauded the police crackdown against drug dealers.

He revealed that currently more than 500 drug dealers are facing imprisonment from 10 to 20 years after conclusion of their cases in courts.

Syed Khalid Hamdani said that Punjab Chief Minister had directed to rout out menace of narcotics from the society and any police personnel or official found involved in having ties with the drug dealers will be dealt as per law.
