Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has expressed optimism about the prospects of a breakthrough in negotiations between the United States and Iran, saying recent diplomatic engagements have brought the two sides closer to a possible agreement.
The 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday that speaking about the ongoing peace efforts, Dar said Pakistan remains firmly committed to achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
He emphasised that diplomacy should take precedence over confrontation and conflict, adding that constructive dialogue remains the most effective means of resolving disputes.
In a statement posted on X on Sunday, Dar described a high-level telephone conversation led by US President Donald Trump as an important step towards the shared objective of regional peace, stability and an early diplomatic outcome.
According to Dar, the call included leaders from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Qatar, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan.
The deputy prime minister praised President Trump’s leadership and commitment to dialogue while also acknowledging the contributions of US Vice President J. D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner for their continued engagement in the negotiations.
Dar also thanked the Iranian leadership, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, for what he described as their constructive role in advancing the peace process.
