Pakistan’s Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China’s Alibaba Group in a move aimed at helping Pakistani small and medium-sized businesses access international markets through e-commerce, 24NewsHD TV reported.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan, who described the partnership as an important step towards promoting Pakistan’s digital economy and strengthening the SME sector.
Speaking at the ceremony, Khan said the government was taking strong measures to accelerate the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision for economic growth and modernization.
Officials attending the ceremony included Secretary Industries and Production Saif Anjum and senior officials from the Ministry of Industries and Production.
The partnership between SMEDA and Alibaba Group was widely seen by officials as a significant development for promoting digital trade and expanding Pakistan’s presence in the global e-commerce market.
