The ruling party expands its parliamentary strength as PTI-backed independents falter across key constituencies: Unofficial tallies show a near-clean sweep for PML-N, with PPP taking one provincial seat in southern Punjab.
The ruling Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML-N) secured a resounding victory in Sunday’s by-elections, winning 12 out of 13 contested seats in the National Assembly (NA) and the Punjab Assembly (PA).
According to unofficial and unverified tallies from six National Assembly constituencies and seven Punjab Assembly constituencies, candidates backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) suffered heavy defeats, despite all of the seats having fallen vacant following the disqualification of several PTI-backed lawmakers in cases linked to the events of May 9.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), a coalition partner of the ruling party, managed to secure one provincial assembly seat from southern Punjab, preventing a complete PML-N sweep.
