Seven policemen of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Central Investigation Agency (CIA) were suspended after an under-custody accused died from severe police torture in Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
According to details, police arrested accused Irfan along with his three accomplices from the Ayesha Manzil area of Karachi.
The heirs of the victim said that Irfan, a resident of Bahawalpur, visited Karachi for the first time. The heirs alleged that Irfan died due to severe police torture.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) SIU, Amjad Shaikh, directed to suspend seven policemen and hold an impartial inquiry.
The police released the accomplices of the accused after the initial investigation. Police said that a post-mortem of the victim will be conducted after the supervision of a magistrate.
The heirs of the victims appealed to the Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon to provide them justice as soon as possible.
Police said that after completion initial investigation, the real cause of death of the accused will be determined.
SIU Police said that the dead accused and his accomplices were taken into custody on suspicion.
The police further revealed that the accused was being shifted to the hospital as his health had deteriorated during custody, but he died on the way to the hospital.
The police said that no signs of police torture were visible on the dead body. On the other hand, one colleague of the deceased Salman, said that the police tortured them badly. They blindfolded us and tortured us, the victim said.
Salman said that the police released them after Irfan’s death. Irfan was the eldest of his five brothers.
