Polling is underway for the local-bodies by-elections to 28 seats in 14 districts of Sindh province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
According to spokesperson for the Election Commissioner Sindh, polling will continue uninterrupted from 8 am to 4 pm and polling began on time.
Polling is underway for the elections to various councils in Hyderabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Matiari, Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur.
Polling is also underway in Karachi East, Karachi West, Kamari, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Badin and Thatta.
The total number of registered voters is 243,187, including 133,038 male and 110,154 female voters.
The by-elections include 2 member district council, 6 chairman, 7 vice chairman and 13 general/ward member seats.
About 14 district returning officers, 21 returning officers and 21 assistant returning officers have been appointed to monitor the election process while 14 district monitoring officers and 21 monitoring officers will also perform their duties.
As many as 1552 officials will be responsible for the election process. A total of 167 polling stations have been established including 17 male, 17 female and 134 combined polling stations are included.
For the election, 127 polling stations have been declared highly sensitive, 34 polling stations have been declared sensitive and 6 normal.
Elections will be held on five seats in three districts in Karachi.
Pakistan People’s Party, Jamaat-e-Islami, TLP, JUI, PTI and independent candidates will be in the fray.
Independent candidates have been allotted screw, cake, middle, key, sofa, book, lock symbols.
A total of 71 polling stations have been set up in West, East and Kemari districts.
The total number of registered voters in West, East and Kemari districts is 114,889.
The total number of polling stations in West TMC Mangho Peer UC 10 is 6.
Ten candidates will be in the fray for the vice chairman seat in West TMC Mangho Peer Lyari Expressway UC 10.
In TMC Mangho Peer UC 10, one candidate from JUI, PP, PML-N, GI, ANP and five independent candidates are in the fray.
There are 8,490 registered voters in West TMC Mangho Peer UC 10.
West TMC 4,998 male voters will exercise their voting right in Mangho Peer UC 10.
As many as 3,492 female voters will exercise their franchise in West District TMC Mangho Peer UC 10.
The total number of polling stations in West District TMC Orangi UC 1 is 29.
A total of 15 candidates are contesting for the chairman's seat in West District TMC Orangi Gulshan Zia UC 1.
PPP, TLP, JI, PML-N one each while 11 independent candidates are contesting in TMC Orangi UC 1.
There are 45,788 registered voters in West District TMC Orangi UC 1.
About 25,609 male voters will exercise their franchise in West District TMC Orangi UC 1 while 20,179 female voters will exercise their franchise in West District TMC Orangi UC 1.
Total number of polling stations in West District TMC Orangi UC 7 is 10.
District West TMC Orangi UC Shah Waliullah Nagar 7, five candidates will be in the fray for the General Member 4 seats.
Three independents, one Jamaat-e-Islami and one PPP candidate are in the fray in TMC Orangi UC 7.
District West TMC Orangi UC 7 has 16,861 registered voters.
District West TMC Orangi UC 7 has 9,013 male voters will exercise their franchise while District West TMC Orangi UC 7 has 7,848 female voters.
District East TMC Sohrab Goth UC 8 has 4 total polling stations.
District East TMC Sohrab Goth UC 8 has 7 candidates in the fray for the Vice Chairman seat.
District East TMC Sohrab Goth UC 8 has 4,795 registered voters.
District East TMC Sohrab Goth UC 8 has 3,087 male voters will exercise their franchise while 1,708 female voters will exercise their franchise in District Sharqi TMC Sohrab Goth UC 8.
The total number of polling stations in District Kemari TMC Municipality UC 8 is 22.
About 17 candidates will be contesting for the post of Vice Chairman in District Kemari TMC Municipality Saeedabad UC 8.
About 13 candidates including TLP, JUI, PML-N, PP, GI and independents are contesting in District Kemari TMC Municipality UC 8.
There are 38,505 registered voters in District Kemari TMC Municipality UC 8.
As many as 21,361 male voters will exercise their franchise in District Kemari TMC Municipality UC 8 while 17,144 female voters will exercise their franchise in District Kemari TMC Municipality UC 8.
