The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Rao Abdul Kareem to submit a report by Tuesday on the steps taken to increase the size of the font of FIRs, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The IGP, Punjab appeared in the court in connection with a five-year-old contempt of court petition filed against the former SHO Chuhng Rashid Ameen Butt.
DIG Investigation Zeeshan Raza, DIG Legal Awais Ahmad Malik and other officials also showed up.
LHC Chief Justice (CJ) Aalia Neelum, on the occasion, expressed displeasure over an extremely small size of the font of FIRs, and, addressing the IGP, said, “Look how minute it is that it is not legible at all even with the help of glasses. Same is the case with every FIR. This is affecting our eyesight. We will read the FIR or understand it.”
She ordered the IGP to make a pattern of computerized FIRs and circulate it at all police stations of the Punjab. “At least, the font should be the same. This is not such a big task. It should be completed in couple of days,” she directed.
The IGP told the CJ that a letter had been written to the PITB chairman for the purpose.
Later the court adjourned the case’s hearing until September 29.
