Pakistan all-format captain and ace batsman Babar Azam became the fastest player to score 2000 Twenty20 International (T20I) runs during the third match against Zimbabwe being played in Harare on Sunday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The 26-year-old achieved the feat and broke Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s record who completed the 2000-run mark in 56 innings.
Babar, who advanced to no. 2 spot in ICC’s rankings for top T20I batsmen, has scored a total of 2000 runs at an average of 48.50 in 49 innings.
The Pakistani skipper was in top form these days as he won Man of the Series in the recently concluded four-match series against South Africa. Babar, who scored 210 runs at an average of 52.50, was the highest run-getter among both teams.
The Lahore-born player’s captaincy has been on a constant improvement since last year series against Bangladesh. Pakistan have won four T20I series (Bangladesh 2-0, Zimbabwe 3-0 and South Africa 2-1 at home and 3-1 away against South Africa) besides the 1-1 series draw against England.
