The United Kingdom and Russia have rolled out fresh travel advisories for Pakistan, flagging escalating security concerns following the deadly Pahalgam attack.
The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) now advises against all travel to certain parts of Pakistan, cautioning that any trips against their guidance could leave travellers without valid insurance coverage. Specifically, the FCDO warns against venturing within five miles of the Pakistan-India international border and within 10 miles of the Line of Control (LoC). The advisory also urges citizens to steer clear of Balochistan Province and areas within 10 miles of Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan. On top of that, a cautionary note has been sounded for parts of India as well, amid mounting regional instability.
Meanwhile, Russia’s embassy in Islamabad isn’t mincing words either, urging its nationals to postpone any travel to Pakistan until the dust settles. In a stark warning, Moscow pointed to rising hostilities between Pakistan and India, worsened by inflammatory rhetoric from officials on both sides.
This latest turbulence stems from a horrific attack at Baisaran meadow in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), where 25 Indian tourists and one Nepali citizen lost their lives. The assault has triggered a diplomatic domino effect: India swiftly suspended visa services for Pakistani nationals and froze cooperation under the Indus Waters Treaty.
In retaliation, Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC) declared that any Indian attempt to disrupt water flows into Pakistan would be treated as an act of war. A high-stakes NSC meeting also greenlit the closure of the Wagah border crossing, a rare and critical point of contact between the two countries.
Tensions soared even higher on Friday when Pakistan’s Senate unanimously passed a resolution rejecting India’s allegations linking Pakistan to the Pahalgam attack — dismissing the accusations as “baseless and politically motivated.”
