18,000 cops deployed in Islamabad for Iran-US talks

The security was heightened across Islamabad after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi landed for possible peace talks with the US, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to details, more than 18,000 police personnel are performing their duties at different important points of the federal capital. 

Red Zone is completely closed for all kind of traffic from Koral, while checkpoints are set up on roads leading to the Red Zone and its extension, with police and Rangers deployed at key intersections and outside government buildings, including the Serena Hotel. 

The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), Mohammad Sarfraz Virk, said that traffic can be halted at Srinagar Highway at different times.

The district administration already banned the entry of all heavy vehicles in Islamabad due to security reasons.

The first round of high-level, direct talks between the US and Iran in 2026 occurred on April 11 and 12, 2026, in Islamabad.
