Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a detailed telephone conversation with the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, discussing the evolving regional situation and ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability.
According to official sources, the conversation lasted around 50 minutes and was described as warm and cordial. Both leaders exchanged views on the broader regional landscape and emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in achieving lasting peace.
The prime minister appreciated the participation of a high-level Iranian delegation in talks held in Islamabad on April 11 and 12, and welcomed Tehran’s decision to send another delegation led by Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. The delegation held meetings with key Pakistani leadership, including an extensive two-hour session with the prime minister.
Sharif also briefed the Iranian president on his recent diplomatic engagements with world leaders, noting that these efforts have helped build wider international consensus in favor of peaceful dialogue in the conflict-affected region.
He praised the outcome of recent discussions held with Iranian leadership during the visit of Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Syed Asim Munir, to Tehran earlier this month. Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, the prime minister said Islamabad would continue its sincere and proactive efforts to enhance stability and security.
President Pezeshkian, in turn, thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar for their constructive role in peace initiatives. He reiterated Iran’s desire for stability in the region and expressed confidence that bilateral ties between the two countries would continue to grow stronger.
The prime minister also conveyed his good wishes and respects to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.
Both leaders agreed to maintain close contact and continue consultations on matters of mutual interest.
