In its written order on the petition filed by 18 Afghan nationals, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday barred the government from going ahead with their deportation, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The court also issued notices to the Ministry of Interior, NADRA, DG Immigration, FIA and Police and sought their replies.
On behalf of the petitioners, Adil Aziz Qazi and other lawyers appeared in the court.
In the order, IHC Chief Justice (CJ) Sarfaraz Dogar wrote that on August 4, the government had ordered the cancellation of proof of registration (PoR) cards of these Afghan nationals and ordered their deportation.
“According to their lawyers, the petitioners belong to the family of the late Fazlur Rehman, who, in 2008, had applied for Pakistani citizenship after completing all legal formalities,” the CJ said, adding that as per the statement given by the lawyers, there had been no decision on the application so far.
The chief justice barred the government from taking any action against the petitioners and adjourned the hearing until September 18.
