Political parties’ leaders as well as independents from across the country continue to file their nomination papers for the general elections due to be held on February 8, 2024, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Today, Sunday (December 24, 2023) is the last date for the submission of nomination papers.
The candidates can submit their papers to their concerned returning officers (ROs) until 4:30 PM today.
Today, former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif filed his papers for Lahore’s National Assembly (NA) seat (NA-130) while another party leader Khurram Dastgir Khan for Gujranwala’s NA-78.
Dr. Yasmin Rashid from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf also submitted her papers from NA-130 while Iqbal Ahmed Khan from Peoples Party, Sufi Khaliq and Ahmed Butt from Jamaat-e-Islami and Maulana Salimullah Qadri from JUI submitted their nomination papers.
Similarly, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi filed his papers for another constituency, NA-150, Multan.
His son Zain Qureshi and daughter Meherbano Qureshi also filed their papers for the same constituency.
Former foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar filed her papers for NA-180, Kot Addu.
Likewise, MQM-P Convener Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui filed his papers for Karachi’s NA-249.
On the other hand, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has said that it will hear the petitions against the demarcations of constituencies after the elections, saying if it busies itself with hearing these pleas, it will adversely affect the electoral process.
It is worth-mentioning here that different high courts of the country have sent back 15 cases of delimitations to the ECP.
The Supreme Court (SC), however, had earlier ordered the ECP to hold elections on the basis of old demarcations.
