American singer Sabrina Carpenter caught fans off guard on Christmas Eve with an unexpected musical release, unveiling Man’s Best Friend (Bonus Track Version) along with a brand-new song titled Such a Funny Way.
The 26-year-old pop star released the track alongside a lyric video and shared her excitement online, describing the song as something she is "so proud of" and revealing that she always envisioned it existing in the same creative world as Man’s Best Friend.
Carpenter explained to fans that the release was intended as a festive gift, saying she did not want them to "wait too long" before hearing it. She also expressed gratitude for the way listeners have embraced her recent music, calling the release a "cathartic Christmas crashout" and hinting that there is more material still on the way.
The surprise drop followed closely on the heels of Carpenter’s appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, where she was questioned about which former partner inspired her recent hit Manchild, a song that has sparked intense speculation among fans.
Rather than respond, the singer wordlessly picked up a beer and took a long sip on camera, letting the silence speak volumes.
On Such a Funny Way, Carpenter dives headfirst into the emotional turbulence of a lopsided relationship.
She sings, "You have such a funny way of sayin’ “I love you” / Forgettin’ me more every day," capturing the slow erosion of affection. She delivers further sharp blows with lines such as, "My sweater from the night we met… you said, “Don’t contact me again,”" and "Funny everybody knows something that I don’t."
The song reaches its most cutting confession when she admits, "I have to laugh just so I don’t cry."
Carpenter had already ignited online buzz months earlier, in June, when fans believed she took a subtle jab at ex Barry Keoghan while teasing Manchild.

She added fuel to the fire by sharing a lyric from the song, "Inside of your head when you’ve just won an argument with a man" — which sent social media into overdrive.
