Polish airlines LOT will announce an aircraft supplier for its fleet upgrade "in the coming months" as it chooses between Brazilian manufacturer Embraer and rival Airbus, the company said Tuesday.
Poland last year announced plans to buy 84 new aircraft for LOT and to phase out the Embraer E170-E190s currently servicing its regional routes.
The carrier currently has 86 aircraft at its disposal and is forecast to almost double the current number by 2032.
"We are analysing the offers for the Airbus A220 CS300 and the Embraer E195 E2," LOT's spokesman Krzysztof Moczulski told AFP on Tuesday.
"The first aircraft should be delivered in 2028," said Moczulski, adding that the decision should be taken "in the coming months".
Airbus A220 CS330 is a 135-seat aircraft, while Embraer E195 E2 can carry up to around 140 passengers.
In addition to Embraer aircraft, LOT, a company owned by the Polish state, has American Boeing aircraft, including 737s and 787s.
In June, the Polish government said it would press ahead with the construction of a multibillion-euro airport project, to be built in the centre of the country between the capital Warsaw and Lodz.
It is expected to open in 2032 and will handle 34 million passengers a year.
The airport is slated to become the main base for LOT.
