Poliovirus spread continued to increase in Pakistan as poliovirus was found in environmental samples of 101 districts of the country in 2025, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
According to National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) report of 54 days of 2025, poliovirus was confirmed in environmental samples of 12 districts of the country on January 3 while Poliovirus was confirmed in environmental samples of 17 districts of the country on January 10.
Moreover, poliovirus was confirmed in samples of four districts on January 17 and three districts on January 24.
Polio virus was confirmed in environmental samples of 26 districts on January 31 and 21 districts on February 7 while poliovirus was confirmed in environmental samples of eight districts on February 14 and polio virus was confirmed in environmental samples of 10 districts on February 23.
Environmental samples were tested in the Regional Reference Laboratory established at the National Institute of Health.
Three poliovirus cases have been reported in the country this year while 74 polio cases and 493 sewage samples tested positive in 2024.
In the context of the polio outbreak, a national polio campaign was organized from February 3 to 9.
More than 45 million children were administered anti-polio drops during the national polio campaign.
