The highly anticipated Champions Trophy clash between South Africa and Australia was called off on Tuesday due to the relentless rain in Rawalpindi.
Continuous downpours prevented even the toss from taking place, forcing match umpires Chris Gaffaney and Richard Kettleborough to abandon the game without a ball being bowled.
Consequently, both teams have been awarded one point each.
The weather conditions in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi remained unfavorable, with intermittent rain continuing throughout the day.
The meteorological department has predicted further rainfall, raising concerns over upcoming matches.
Both South Africa and Australia are part of Group B and Australia beat England while South Africa defeated Afghanistan in their opening matches of the 50-over tournament.
The result of today’s match was crucial for both sides, as a win would have significantly strengthened their chances of reaching the semi-finals.
India and New Zealand have qualified for the semi-finals from Group A while title-holders Pakistan and Bangladesh crashed out of the tournament.
The semi-finals of the tournament are scheduled for March 5 and 6 in Dubai and Lahore, respectively.
If India qualifies for the final, the summit clash will be held in Dubai; otherwise, the grand finale is set to take place at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on March 9.
