More than 6,000 athletes took part in the ongoing marathon competitions being held in Islamabad on Sunday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The marathon, organised by the Islamabad Run Club, began at 8 am from F-9 Park and features participants from more than 30 countries, including members of the diplomatic community.
Ambassadors, foreign athletes, and runners from diverse walks of life are taking part in what has become one of Pakistan’s most prominent sporting events.
According to organisers, more than 6,000 participants, including men, women and children of all ages, are competing in multiple race categories. These include a 42-kilometre full marathon, 21-kilometre half marathon, 15-kilometre, 10-kilometre, and a five-kilometre race for children under the age of 14.
The marathon route starts and ends at F-9 Park, passing through Jinnah Avenue and D-Chowk. To ensure participants’ safety and comfort, water points and medical facilities have been set up at intervals of every 2.5 kilometres along the route.
The event is being organised with the support of the Islamabad district administration, Capital Development Authority (CDA), traffic police, and Islamabad Police.
Organisers said the marathon aims to promote a healthy lifestyle while projecting Islamabad as a vibrant and welcoming city capable of hosting international sporting events.
