While appealing for global cooperation against digital terrorism, the Government of Pakistan has demanded of the social media companies to share crucial user data and enhance coordination to fight online extremism.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, in a joint press briefing with Barrister Aqeel Malik, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry emphasised that Pakistan is not suppressing freedom of expression but rather building a digital firewall against terrorism, asserting that Pakistan remains a frontline state in the global war on terror.
Talal Chaudhry revealed that terrorist organisations such as TTP, ISKP, BLA, and BLF are actively using social media platforms for recruitment and propaganda.
He stated that Pakistan has identified hundreds of social media accounts linked to terrorism, calling for platforms to auto-block such accounts and ensure data transparency.
“Social media companies must remove terror content instantly using AI,” he stressed, while disclosing that 2,417 complaints related to digital terrorism are currently under review.
The minister also pointed out that the United Nations has banned ISKP and TTP, while the United States and the UK have declared BLA a terrorist organisation.
Meanwhile, Barrister Aqeel Malik added that spreading terrorist propaganda online is punishable under Pakistan’s cybercrime laws (PECA).
He also extended an invitation to foreign tech companies to open local offices in Pakistan, facilitating closer cooperation in digital regulation and security enforcement.
