Pakistan and China are advancing discussions on joint ventures in artificial intelligence, smart cities, and digital innovation, according to a statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of IT and Telecommunication on Friday. The announcement follows a high-level meeting in Islamabad between Federal Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong.
The meeting reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to strengthening their digital partnership through knowledge exchange, joint projects, and technical capacity building in emerging technologies.
“This dialogue opened avenues for joint ventures, knowledge transfer, and capacity building in key sectors of the digital economy,” the ministry noted.
Both sides highlighted the importance of leveraging digital technologies for inclusive development and pledged to pursue mutually beneficial initiatives that enhance bilateral digital cooperation.
Minister Khawaja shared Pakistan’s strategic vision to utilize digital tools for economic development and better public services. Ambassador Jiang reiterated China’s commitment to supporting practical collaboration and expertise exchange in areas central to innovation.
Discussions covered deepening collaboration in smart city development, artificial intelligence applications, and broader digital transformation goals.
The ministry described the meeting as a step forward in realizing Pakistan’s ambitions for a technology-driven economy.
The government’s ‘Digital Pakistan’ initiative serves as the cornerstone of this vision, focusing on expanding broadband and 5G infrastructure, promoting digital literacy and innovation among youth, strengthening e-governance services, and fostering investment in tech startups, IT zones, and export-oriented tech firms.
