The Punjab Bar Council is going to cancel over 1,200 fake LLB degrees held by lawyers and allegedly issued by Shah Abdul Latif University.

According to the Punjab Bar Council, a criminal case has been registered against university employee Allah Rakhiyo for his alleged involvement in issuing fake law degrees.

Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Punjab Bar Council, Fakhr Hayat Awan, has lodged a first information report (FIR) in this regard. He said investigations are underway to identify more university employees, agents and facilitators involved in the fake degree scandal.

Fakhr said legal action would be taken against all those involved without discrimination, adding that the Punjab Bar Council is implementing a zero-tolerance policy against fake degrees and individuals practicing law on fraudulent qualifications.

He stated that licences of lawyers found to be practicing on the basis of fake law degrees would be cancelled and criminal proceedings would be initiated against those using forged academic certificates.

The Punjab Bar Council said no individual, institution, or facilitator involved in the issuance or use of fake law degrees would be allowed to evade the law.

The chairman of the Executive Committee said that the scrutiny of suspicious law degrees issued by other universities is also underway as part of the council's broader campaign to eliminate fake qualifications from the legal profession.
