A comprehensive report submitted to the Chief Minister of Punjab on Wednesday revealed that a total of 851 police encounters took place across the province this year in which over 400 criminals were killed.
The findings encompassed records from the Crime Control Department (CCD) as well as various district police units, including Lahore.
As per the report, a total of 401 alleged criminals lost their lives during these encounters, while 546 sustained injuries and were subsequently taken into custody afterwards.
The report offers a detailed region-wise breakdown of the operations which took place across the province.
In the past two months alone, almost 286 encounters were conducted by the Crime Control Department (CCD), which led to the killing of 196 suspects, while 139 were injured, followed by their arrests.
Apart from police encounters, the report further underscores growing concerns about crime and violence in the province, revealing that 87 citizens were killed at the hands of robbers and dacoits by opening gunfire.
223 cases of blind and unsolved murders across the province were also reported.
Additionally, a total of 2,016 cases of homicides, attributed to diverse motives and circumstances, were recorded this year.
