Heavy monsoon rain lashed the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Kotli, Muzaffarabad, Gujrat, Sialkot and other cities of north Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Wednesday, turning the weather pleasant, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The downpour in Rawalpindi and Islamabad prompted the authorities to impose a rain emergency.
The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) was put on high alert while the water levels in Nullah Lai and other drains were monitored.
WASA MD Muhammad Salim Ashraf said that the staffers were busy draining out the rainwater from low-lying areas with the help of heavy machinery.
He further said that so far over 80 millimeters of rain had been recorded in the twin cities.

The MD added that so far, the flow of water in Nullah Lai was normal. “The water level in the nullah at Katarian has been recorded at nine feet, while at Gawalmandi Pull at five feet,” he explained.
The Met Office said that 52 millimeters of rain was recorded at Saidpur (Islamabad), 25 millimeters at Golra, 66 millimeters at Bokra, 55 millimeters at Shamsabad (Rawalpindi), 41 millimeters at Kutchehry, while 53 millimeters of rain was recorded at Pir Widhai.
The amount of rainfall recorded in other cities was as follows: 40 millimeters at Kotli (AJK), 31 millimeters in Sialkot, six millimeters in Gujrat, five millimeters at Rawalakot (AJK), three millimeters in Muzaffarabad and two millimeters at Balakot (KP).
One millimeter of rain was recorded at Sialkot Airport, Garhi Dopatta and Gujranwala each.
More showers forecast
Meanwhile, the Met Office predicted that thundershowers accompanied by strong winds would lash different parts of Kashmir, KP, Potohar region of Punjab, including Rawalpindi and Islamabad, and northern and eastern parts of Punjab namely Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Okara, Sahiwal, Khushab, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Pakpattan, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Khushab during the next 24 hours.
Torrential rains were expected at a few places, it added.
The Met Office forecast hot and extremely humid weather for the rest of the country.
