The main Ashura procession in Lahore was taken out from Nisar Haveli inside Mochi Gate on the 9th of Muharram, with thousands of mourners participating in commemorations to pay tribute to the sacrifices of Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala.
The mourning ceremonies began at Nisar Haveli, where renowned mourners Ahsan Ali, Faiq Ali Naqvi, Fawad Butt, Kamail Jaffrey and Ustad Mansoor Ahmed recited nohas.
Addressing the gathering, Allama Amjad Ali Abidi highlighted the virtues, sacrifices and sufferings associated with the tragedy of Karbala, urging participants to follow the teachings of patience, sacrifice and justice.
Following the mourning ceremony, the traditional procession of Zuljinah was taken out from Nisar Haveli. A large number of devotees joined the procession, which proceeded along its traditional route towards Mubarak Haveli.
To facilitate mourners, numerous stalls providing water and milk were established along the procession routes. Arrangements for distribution of free food were also made at various points to serve participants throughout the event.
Authorities put in place comprehensive security measures to ensure the peaceful conduct of the procession. Police and other law enforcement agencies maintained strict surveillance at all entry and exit points, while monitoring teams remained deployed along the route.
Several civic departments, including WAPDA, WASA and Lahore Waste Management Company, actively participated in arrangements to facilitate mourners and maintain public services during the event.
Officials said the Ashura procession would continue on its traditional route and conclude tomorrow evening at Karbala Gamay Shah, where final mourning rituals will be held. Authorities expressed satisfaction with the overall arrangements and urged participants to continue cooperating with security personnel throughout the commemorations.
