Govt fails to meet economic targets set for current fiscal year

Economic growth touches 0.29%: GDP 5%: Agri produce 1.55% below target: Industrial production minus 2.94%

The government has failed to meet the economic development targets set for the current financial year, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

According to the Ministry of Planning, the economic growth rate of the country has reached 0.29 percent this fiscal year.

The GDP target for the current financial year was set at 5 percent. Last year, Pakistan’s GDP was 6.10 percent.

The agricultural produce during the current financial year remained at 1.55 percent below the target which was set at 3.9 percent.

The cotton yield remained at minus 2.49 percent during the current financial year, and the production of important crops remained at minus 3.20 percent.

The production target for major crops was set at 3.5 percent while the production of cotton ginning was minus 23 percent in the current financial year.

The production target for other crops was set at 5 percent.

The production in the livestock sector remained at 3.78 percent above the target which was set at 3.7 percent.

The production in the industrial sector remained at minus 2.94 percent below the target which was set at 5.9 percent.

The production in the services sector remained at 0.86 percent below the target which was set at 5.1 percent.

The production in the major industries remained at minus 7.98 percent below the target which was set at 7.4 percent.

The production in the construction sector remained at minus 5.53 percent while it remained at 6.03 percent in the electricity and gas sectors.

The production in the wholesale retail sector remained at minus 4.46 percent below the target which was set at 6.5 percent.

The production in the financial and insurance sector remained at minus 3.82 percent while it remained at 4.7 percent above the target of 4.5 percent in the transport, storage and communication sectors.

The production in the real estate sector stood at 3.7 percent above the target of 3.8 percent.
