First international sociology conference at UMT

The Department of Sociology, School of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Management and Technology (UMT) organised its first International Conference of Sociology, titled ‘Social Institutions: Emerging Challenges, Opportunities, and Solutions’ at its main campus in Lahore.

This landmark two-day event brought together esteemed scholars, researchers, and policymakers to explore and engage in critical discussions surrounding the challenges and solutions to social institutions in the contemporary society of Pakistan. The inaugural Session commenced with remarks by Dr Sarosh Iqbal, Chairperson Department of Sociology. Dr Asif Raza, Rector of UMT, gave a welcome address.

Zahoor Hussain, Secretary Social Welfare Department Punjab, Mudassar Riaz Malik, DG Social Welfare Department, Prof. Dr Nadeem Bhatti, Vice Chancellor of Lahore Leads University and Prof Dr Mumtaz Akhtar Dean School of Social Sciences & Humanities, UMT, were the guests at the inaugural session. 

International academicians and researchers including Prof Dr Parveen Ali from Sheffield University and Parveen Kaur from Malaysia varsity were the keynote speakers.  Dr Sara Rizvi Jafree, Prof Dr Raana Malik and Salman Abid were among the speakers. The success of the moot marks a significant milestone for the Department of Sociology at UMT, reinforcing its commitment to advancing knowledge and discourse in the field of social sciences.
