CM Naqvi defends his govt decision to suspend Nawaz’s sentence

Giving his point of view on the suspension of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s sentence in the Al-Azizia reference by the Punjab government, caretaker Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi has said that the remission has been granted as per the law, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

The Punjab chief minister said that the provincial government received a request and it approved the suspension of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s sentence under Section 401 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which deals with suspensions, remissions and commutations of sentences.

He said that the same request was also sent to the former Punjab chief minister Usman Buzdar, but the latter rejected the request without even hearing it.

CM Naqvi said that his government has sent the request to the court. Now court will decide what to do, he said adding that the interim government has got the authority under Section 401 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to suspend the sentence.
