Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi chaired a high-level meeting on Saturday to review the operational performance, punctuality, and commercial management of Pakistan Railways, 24NewsHD TV reported.
During the briefing, officials informed the minister about the causes behind train delays and the measures being taken to ensure regular operations.
The minister was also briefed on the commercial management of trains, including the performance of the Cargo Express service, which has recently been outsourced.
Abbasi expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress and appreciated the management’s efforts.
On the occasion, the minister set a target to induct 100 new coaches into the system by December, aiming to enhance passenger capacity and comfort.
He also directed that all engineering obstacles between Lahore and Rawalpindi be removed within a month to reduce travel time on the busy route.
In a stern administrative move, four officers involved in the auction of Lahore division’s land were suspended pending inquiry.
Additionally, the meeting was told that model designs for ten drivers’ running rooms have been finalized. The minister directed that new rooms be constructed, with repair and renovation work scheduled to commence from November.
