Pakistani security forces have thwarted an attempted incursion by the Afghan Taliban in the Chaman sector along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, with several Afghan Taliban killed in the ensuing response, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday.
The security sources said Pakistani troops responded promptly after Afghan Taliban fighters opened fire and attempted to enter Pakistani territory. They said the Pakistani response was effective and prevented the reported incursion from succeeding.
According to the sources, Pakistani forces also targeted posts used by the Afghan Taliban with mortar fire and quadcopter strikes. The sources claimed that several positions involved in the reported attack were destroyed during the response.
The security sources said the Pakistani military's action had prevented the reported infiltration plan from being carried out.
India-sponsered militant killed in Kech
In a separate operation, security forces have also killed an Indian-sponsored militant in the Mazaband Range area of Kech district in Balochistan.
The sources said security forces detected the movement of militants near the Pakistan-Iran border. A timely operation was launched and prevented the militants from escaping towards Iran.
According to the security sources, one militant was killed during the operation. They said security forces would continue operations until the last militant was eliminated.
The 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday that Pakistani security forces had thwarted an attempted incursion by Afghan Taliban fighters in the Gulistan sector along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The report said the Afghan fighters had attempted to enter Pakistani territory and opened fire, prompting a response from Pakistani forces. Several Afghan Taliban fighters were killed in the retaliatory action.
Intermittent exchanges of fire were continuing in the border area, while Pakistani security forces remained on alert, according to the sources. They said security forces were prepared to respond to any further attempt to enter Pakistani territory from Afghan soil.
The 24NewsHD also reported that Pakistan had earlier on Thursday said it had carried out strikes on 10 locations in Afghanistan after accusing drones launched from Afghan territory of violating Pakistani airspace. Afghan authorities rejected Pakistan's account and said four civilians were killed in those strikes.
