The Pakistan Kissan Ittehad has postponed its planned long march and sit-in towards Islamabad following successful negotiations with the Balochistan government in Quetta, Home Affairs aide Babar Yousafzai said on Thursday.
According to Yousafzai, a government delegation led by Provincial Minister Ali Madad Jattak held talks with Kissan Ittehad President Khalid Bhat. Member of the Provincial Assembly Mir Jahanzaib Mengal also participated in the negotiations.
The government delegation assured the Kissan Ittehad leadership that its demands would be addressed, Yousafzai said.
Following the assurances, Kissan Ittehad President Khalid Bhat accepted the government’s request and announced the postponement of the long march and sit-in towards Islamabad.
Yousafzai said the decision was taken in view of the prevailing situation in the country and the law-and-order situation.
He added that the negotiations between the Balochistan government and Kissan Ittehad marked a positive step towards resolving the farming community’s legitimate demands.
The Balochistan government is taking serious measures to address the farmers’ concerns, Yousafzai added.
Khalid Bhat also assured the government delegation of the Kissan Ittehad’s cooperation and confirmed the postponement of the long march.
