Fashion designer Parishae Adnan has broken her silence on the ongoing controversy surrounding her recent television appearance, thanking the women who publicly supported her after she was asked questions about her gym attire and how her parents respond to her clothing choices.
Taking to Instagram, Parishae shared a series of Stories addressing the backlash and expressing gratitude to those who came forward in her defence, including actress Anika Zulfiqar, who had earlier criticised the line of questioning.
Thanking Anika, Parishae wrote, “Thank you for saying this. I knew when they asked me this question what they were trying to do. And in my brain, I had to tell myself, ‘udhay controlllll!’”
In a follow-up Story, the designer expressed appreciation for the women who stood by her during the controversy.
“So grateful that I'm surrounded by the best people. The best women. That recognize that this was some dumb shit that just shouldn't have happened. For 2 years I've said no to this show. I remember again why I should've refused again,” she penned.
Parishae also shared a post addressing the viral exchange, featuring an image of herself alongside the overlay text, “My brain TRYING its MF best to stay calm.”
The post seemingly reflected her perspective on the interview, particularly the questions surrounding her fitness clothing and personal choices.
During the appearance, Parishae was questioned about the way she dresses in her gym videos, including how her parents allow her to dress in that manner. The exchange subsequently circulated widely on social media, prompting criticism from several users and public figures who felt the questions were judgmental or intrusive.
Rather than responding aggressively, she appeared to remain composed despite the nature of the questions, while later using humour and sarcasm to reflect on the experience.
Several prominent Pakistani personalities from the entertainment and fashion circles also voiced their support for the designer.
Actress Mishi Khan criticised the questioning, describing it as “nonsensical,” while actress Yashal Shahid sarcastically joked that Parishae should wear a heavy kambal (blanket) to the gym next time.
Fashion journalist Aamna Isani also joined the discussion, questioning the focus on a woman’s clothing choices instead of highlighting her professional accomplishments and international work.
The controversy has consequently sparked a broader conversation online about the questions public figures face during television interviews, particularly when discussions about their personal choices and appearance overshadow their professional achievements.
