The Department of Livestock Stock, Sindh, Director-General Hizbullah Bhutto issued a lumpy skin disease (LSD) alert for animals arriving from Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
According to details, the alert was issued after the detection of lumpy skin disease in the majority of animals arriving in Sindh from Punjab.
The alert suggested starting a vaccination campaign for the animals soon. The DG directed relevant officials to establish health camps at the border areas of Sindh and Punjab.
The DG Health said that the Sindh government purchased the lumpy skin disease vaccine from a foreign country.
He said that vaccination of animals in Sindh is already underway, while the vaccine will be administered to animals arriving from Sindh.
Reports said Lumpy Skin Disease, first detected in Pakistan in November 2021, caused widespread damage to the livestock sector in 2022.
Sources reveal that the recent outbreak has impacted cattle in south Punjab, particularly in areas bordering Sindh, near cities such as Moro and Naushero Feroze.
Data says that in year 2022 alone, LSD affected over 62,000 animals in Punjab, resulting in the death of 4,656 cattle and significant financial setbacks for ordinary and milking farmers
