Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has directed to provide adequate security to players, officials and cricket fans in Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in Lahore, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans to face each other at Gaddafi Stadium today.
More than 8,000 police officers and personnel will perform security duty during the match.
IGP Punjab directed that supervisory officers should personally review all arrangements including security and traffic.
IGP Punjab further instructed that police personnel should be on high alert at duty points and keep a close eye on suspicious activities.
Dr. Usman Anwar said Punjab Police has adopted a better strategy than before for the security of PSL matches.
We are in coordination with all institutions including the district administration, security agencies for the peaceful conduct of PSL matches, Dr. Usman Anwar said.
Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit and Elite Force should patrol the routes of the teams, around the stadium effectively, IGP Punjab further directed.
He directed that important locations, including teams' routes, stadiums, and residences, should be monitored at all times with CCTV cameras.
Police snipers should be deployed on the stadium and surrounding high-rise buildings, IG Punjab further directed.
A traffic advisory has been issued for citizen awareness and traffic flow, Dr. Usman Anwar said.
He advised fans should follow police instructions to enjoy the game of cricket.
