Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the establishment of a 50-acre Punjab Film City in Lahore, describing it as a landmark project for the revival of Pakistan’s film and media industry.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the film city will be developed within the Nawaz Sharif IT City in Lahore and will serve as the country’s first fully integrated end-to-end media production hub.
Maryam Nawaz said the project will provide modern facilities for film, television, animation and digital media production under one roof.
She added that the initiative aims to restore Pakistan’s film industry through advanced technology, infrastructure and resources.
The chief minister stated that reliance on foreign facilities for VFX and post-production work will be significantly reduced once the project is completed.
The film city will include modern studios, sound stages and advanced post-production laboratories.
Plans also include dedicated shooting spaces, sets and a central artificial lake, along with a convention hall for international events and award ceremonies.
The project will further feature a media trade hub and a film and music school, aimed at developing talent and providing professional training opportunities.
Authorities said the initiative is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities while promoting growth in animation, gaming and digital media sectors.
Maryam Nawaz described the project as a major step towards strengthening the creative economy, stating that it will bring together talent, technology and business on a single platform.
The film city will be completed in phases, with further details expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
